Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is the mobile RPG I keep recommending when someone wants a real story on their phone. You build a party of mismatched travelers, and the writing treats them like people rather than stat blocks. Swap a cynical healer for a reckless duelist and the mid-mission banter actually shifts, which made me replay chapters just to hear what I missed.
Combat is turn-based with a timing twist: landing inputs on the beat boosts your skills, so even easy fights stay engaged. Progression is generous without being mindless, you pick a handful of meaningful upgrades per level instead of drowning in menus.
My only gripe is the inventory screen, which clearly wasn't designed for one hand. Everything else, from the hand-painted regions to the quiet campfire scenes between battles, feels made with care.
